1st International Patient & Physician Summit on Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia

On November 9-11, 2001, the Research Fund for Waldenstrom’s at the DFCI and the Zakim Center for Family and Support Services at the DFCI co-sponsored the First International Patient and Physician Summit on WM which attracted over 300 patients and family members who joined 12 distinguished faculty members with an expertise on WM.

Patients received an informative update on scientific and clinical efforts directed at WM, including considerations for initiation of therapy, prognostic factors, and treatment options. The faculty provided an overview of their individual patient management by debating the management of six typical WM cases which were poised to them for consideration. Evaluations received from the audience who provided feedback on the conference as a whole, and individual speaker presentations were highly favorable, and a follow-up summit (2nd International Patient & Physician Summit on WM) under the auspices of Dr. Christos Emmanouilides took place on November 17-19, 2003 at the UCLA Campus in Los Angeles, CA.
